Safety Framework
How Unburdly Protects You
This document explains our safety systems, reporting processes, and what happens when something goes wrong. Transparency about safety is non-negotiable for a platform built on emotional vulnerability.
1. Listener Screening
Before anyone can listen on Unburdly, they must complete:
- Identity verification — Government ID check (stored encrypted, never shared)
- Background check — Criminal record screening for violence, harassment, or exploitation
- Active listening training — 4-hour certified course on empathetic response, boundaries, and crisis recognition
- Code of conduct agreement — Digital signature confirming they have read, understood, and agree to uphold all standards
- Mock session evaluation — Supervised practice conversation with feedback before going live
2. Conversation Privacy Architecture
- No persistent storage: Chat messages exist only in temporary memory during the active session. When the session ends, messages are permanently deleted. We do not store conversation history in any database.
- No identity linkage: Your session ID is randomly generated and not linked to any personal data. Even we cannot identify who participated in a specific past session.
- Encrypted transmission: All messages are sent over TLS 1.3 encrypted connections.
- No third-party access: We do not share conversation data with advertisers, analytics companies, or external partners.
3. Real-Time Safety Monitoring
- Automated keyword alerts: Our system flags crisis-related keywords (suicide, self-harm, immediate danger) to prompt listeners to provide emergency resources.
- Session pattern detection: Unusual patterns (listener asking for personal info, user expressing distress without listener responding appropriately) trigger automatic review.
- Random quality audits: A small percentage of active sessions are anonymously monitored by senior listeners for quality assurance. No personal content is recorded — only listener behavior is evaluated.
4. Report & Block System
If anything feels wrong during a conversation:
- Click the Report button in the chat interface
- Select the issue: inappropriate behavior, pressure for personal info, advice when not wanted, unprofessional tone, or other
- Add optional details
- The session is immediately flagged for review
What happens next:
- Report received instantly by our safety team
- Review within 24 hours (often within 2 hours during active periods)
- If the report is validated, the listener is suspended pending investigation
- You receive an email update on the outcome (if you provided a contact — otherwise, the action is still taken)
- Severe violations result in immediate permanent ban of the listener
5. Block Function
- You can block any listener at any time during or after a session
- Blocked listeners will never be matched with you again
- Blocking is anonymous — the listener is not notified
6. Crisis Handling Protocol
Unburdly is not a crisis service. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please contact:
- AASRA: 91-22-2754-6669
- iCall: 9152987821
- Snehi: 1860-266-2345
- Emergency: 112
What our listeners do in a crisis:
- Recognize crisis signals through training
- Respond with care and validation
- Immediately share the above emergency resources
- Encourage you to contact professional help
- Report the session so our team can follow up with additional resources
- Never attempt to handle the crisis alone or provide clinical intervention
7. Data Breach Response
In the unlikely event of a data breach:
- We will notify all affected users within 72 hours
- We will publish a public incident report detailing what happened and what was affected
- We will engage third-party security auditors to prevent recurrence
- Given our no-storage architecture, the impact of any breach is structurally limited
8. Appeals & Transparency
- If you are a listener and believe a report was made in error, you may appeal within 7 days
- All safety decisions are logged and auditable
- We publish quarterly safety transparency reports: number of reports, actions taken, average response time
9. Contact the Safety Team
For urgent safety concerns, reports, or questions about this framework:
- Email: support@unburdly.com
- Response time: Within 4 hours for urgent matters, 24 hours for general inquiries
This framework is reviewed and updated quarterly. Last updated: May 2026
